Jess Root
Singer-Songwriter
Honest songs for old souls.
Jess Root is an American singer-songwriter whose music blends soulful melodies, thoughtful lyrics, and emotional honesty. Influenced by the sounds of R&B, neo-soul, pop, and hip-hop from an early age, she writes songs that explore identity, healing, love, and the quiet moments that shape us.
Growing up in an Italian-American family in Connecticut, Jess found her first stage in the living room, putting on performances for her family before studying musical theater and dance as a teenager. Although life eventually led her into a career in communications, music never stopped calling.
After relocating to the Dominican Republic, Jess made the decision to return to songwriting with renewed purpose. She immersed herself in vocal training, collaborated with producers and musicians throughout the Caribbean, and released a collection of singles culminating in her EP, No Me Encajes. Along the way, her music received radio support in the Dominican Republic, and two tracks from the project—"Apego Ma' Fuerte" and "Salte de Mi"—were mixed with the support of two-time Grammy Award-winning engineer Steve Fallone.
Today, Jess is entering a new creative chapter. While her earlier work embraced Latin-Caribbean influences, her current writing returns to the soulful, R&B, and hip-hop sounds that first shaped her as an artist. She continues writing and performing original music while collaborating with respected musicians, composers, and educators in the Dominican Republic.
Whether performing live or in the studio, Jess creates music for people who feel deeply—songs that invite listeners to slow down, or awaken to their inner rhythm.
